Live Lit, San Jose

  • Caffe Frascati 315 South 1st Street San Jose, CA, 95113 United States (map)

I will headline the weekly Live Lit open mic on Thursday, January 30th, at Caffe Frascati one day before my birthday. For the event, I will read a handful of old, if not classic, Gary Singh newspaper columns, perhaps dating all the way back to 2005, when Metro first gave me the Silicon Alleys column. I don’t think anything like this has ever happened in San Jose. Never has a newspaper columnist taken over an open mic event to read his own columns. It's going to be hysterical.

Going on several years now, Live Lit is unique in San Jose. While the headliner is often more established, the event is for anyone to read whatever they want -- poetry, stories, diary entries, rants, tirades, fiction, love letters, or whatever. It's a fantastic event because it gives a stage and a microphone to anyone, from any walk of life, who simply needs to be heard without any fear of criticism or judgement. Even if you don't have any desire to be a professional poet or working writer of any sort, you can jump on stage and speak your mind. That's the point. Everyone is welcome -- pros, amateurs or nincompoops. It doesn't matter. So I will be the headlining nincompoop on January 30th, one day before my birthday. I hope to see you there.
